Today will see schoolchildren from all over Brighton learn how to dance courtesy of two television stars.Strictly Come Dancing's Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova are teaching 300 children aged between five and 16 some ballroom basics, to launch an initiative funded by the Aldridge Foundation.
It is hoped that the pilot scheme of Essentially Dance will work to improve the fitness and self-esteem of the pupils taking part, who hail from six primary and secondary schools in the city.
The programme will see teachers taking part in three days of trainings on how to deliver both ballroom and Latin dance to children as part of their PE lessons.
This will be supported by a DVD, a step-by-step guide book and music CD for the staff to take their new skills into the school gym.
Earlier this month the Department for Children, Schools and Families pledged more than £21 million to improve the sports facilities at 75 sports colleges across England.
