Kensington Aldridge Academy
The Foundation is delighted to be lead sponsor for Kensington Aldridge Academy, working with co-sponsor the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and a range of educational partners.
KAA would be a brand new school, opening with the first group of 11 year olds (Year 7) in September 2014. The capacity of the Academy will provide a mixed 11-18 Academy, with 900 places for 11-16 year olds, and a sixth form for up to 240. The Academy would specialise in Entrepreneurship and Expressive Arts, providing a community entrepreneurship hub within the north Kensington area - a vibrant and diverse neighbourhood. The understanding of specific individual and community needs of the area will be pivotal within the project.
The Academy would build strong links with its main feeder primary schools, and would uniquely within the area provide a Borough-wide resource centre for students on the autistic spectrum disorder continuum.
In addition, four Educational Advisory Partners have joined the team - two renowned public schools, and two internationally regarded Arts academies.
The Sponsors' joint vision is to deliver high standards of attainment, building on success already achieved in neighbouring primary schools. The Academy would nurture entrepreneurial skills and attitudes, develop self-confidence, reflection and problem-solving skills, and encourage pupils to be active citizens. The Academy would design and provide individual learning plans with an emphasis on numeracy, literacy, ICT and communication. All students would be given progression targets to develop independent learning and ambition. A full range of courses and qualifications would ensure the aim of achieving the highest academic standards for every student.
The proposed new Kensington Aldridge Academy would create an environment where learning is valued, improving the life-chances of its students, and would result in considerable and far-reaching improvements for the whole of the local community in a way no other project could.
