The Aldridge Foundation was named Academy Sponsor of the Year at the British Council for Schools Environment “Best of British” Awards last night.

The awards recognise achievements in education, design and construction. In the last year, the Foundation has:

-   Seen a 26 percentage point improvement in GCSE results at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy, which was opened in April by HRH Prince William and his then fiancée Catherine Middleton
-   Opened the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy in Falmer, where work is almost complete on their new building
-   Secured £12.7million funding for our third Academy, Portslade Aldridge Community Academy which will open in September, and £17.6million for a new Academy in North Kensington

Chairman of The Aldridge Foundation, Rod Aldridge, said:

‘’We’re proud that the value of our distinctive approach has received this recognition. We believe that our willingness to challenge conventional thinking where it isn’t working has definitely contributed to this success.  Our commitment to long term improvement and to ensuring our academies support wider community regeneration is very important to us.

Most of all, I think this award recognises the value of our unique approach to developing the entrepreneurial mindset that will transform life chances for all our students.  We’ve got very ambitious plans for the year ahead of us, so we are all looking to build on this success in the years ahead. This Award recognises the hard work of staff at our Foundation and in our Academies – and above all the students who attend them, of whom we are immensely proud.”
