25/08/2011

The Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA) has seen a colossal 64% increase in the number of students securing five or more GCSEs at Grade A*-C including English and Maths while the Darwen Academy has scored the highest ever GCSE results.

At BACA, 36% of students secured 5 or more GCSEs at Grades A*-C, including English and Maths, a 64% increase from the previous year, at the then Falmer High School. 73% of students secured five or more GCSEs overall at A*-C, again, up from 58% the previous year.

BACA’s Principal, Philomena Hogg, said:

“These are record-breaking results. I am immensely proud of what we have been able to achieve. The students have worked so hard, as have our staff, and the results are there for all to see. This will give everyone a massive boost as we prepare to start a new school year in our brand new home.”

Rod Aldridge, Chairman of The Aldridge Foundation, which sponsors BACA, said:

“These results today are the highest ever in the history of the school. They are a reflection of the hard work put in by the students and the team at BACA. This is tremendous news and demonstrates that there are no limits to what we can achieve together.”

For a second year, the Darwen Aldridge Community Academy also recorded another increase in their GCSE results, with 56% of students securing five or more GCSEs at A*-C Grade, including English and Maths.

Brendan Loughran, the DACA Principal, said:

“I have nothing but praise for our students for their determination to succeed and thank the staff and the parents for their dedication and support. In addition to moving in to the new facilities and a Royal visit, the A Level and GCSE results conclude what has been an outstanding year for the Academy.”

Alongside that, 41% of students at Portslade Community College, which will become the Portslade Aldridge Community Academy from September, secured five or more GCSEs including English and Maths at A*-C grade, up from 35% last year.

Honor Wilson Fletcher, Chief Executive of The Aldridge Foundation, said the results were an incredible achievement by everyone at the Academies.
