Baroness Prosser visits Portslade Aldridge Community Academy
10/02/2012
Portslade Aldridge Community Academy (PACA) hosted a visit from Baroness Margaret Prosser, OBE, a Labour life peer who is sits in the House of Lords today. The Baroness hosted a talk to students from the Academy’s 6th Form and GCSE History sets on the UK’s political and parliamentary processes, as well as answering some searching questions on life at Westminster.
The Baroness, who combines her work in the Lords with her role as Deputy Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, also presented PACA student Josh Collins with an Award in recognition of his excellent work in the community.
PACA Principal Stuart McLaughlin said: "We are very honoured that Baroness Prosser was able to talk to our students today. Our law making processes are constantly evolving and it is crucial that all students thoroughly understand them. Her visit provided a fantastic opportunity for students to talk to someone who has a deep understanding of Parliament, so that they can really appreciate Britain's law making processes.
Congratulations to Josh Collis for his Citizenship Award. The Academy is committed to supporting all students to develop the qualities that will help them to become valued members of the Portslade community. Josh is an exemplary student and citizen who thoroughly deserves his award."
The visit was arranged through the Lord Speaker’s “Peers in Schools” programme, which has been running across the UK since 2007 and has so far involved around 30,000 young people. This continuing outreach programme sends members of the House of Lords into schools and colleges across the country to give talks in support of the citizenship curriculum.
