Best selling author Anthony Horowitz to visit Darwen Academy

29/06/2011

The best selling author, Anthony Horowitz – creator of the “Alex Rider” stories about a teenage spy - is to visit the Darwen Aldridge Community Academy (DACA) on Tuesday 5th July.

The writer will open the Academy’s Learning Resource Centre and hold a question and answer session with students, as well as signing copies of his books.

As part of the visit, Mr Horowitz will be shown round the Academy by students who have won a competition to say why they are the biggest Anthony Horowitz fans.

Speaking ahead of his visit, Mr Horowitz said: “I've always had a great belief in the potential of young people and the results at the Darwen Aldridge Community Academy speak for themselves. I'm really looking forward to meeting these exceptional students and I'm delighted to have been asked to open their new Learning Resource Centre.”

Brendan Loughran, the DACA Principal, said that students were really looking forward to the visit: “His books are very popular with our students, and we hope to give him a day to remember.”

Anthony Horowitz is best known as the creator of the Alex Rider novels, featuring the reluctant teenage superspy. The books have sold over 12 million copies. The ninth and final Alex Rider novel, ‘Scorpia Rising’, was published by Walker Books in March and was - like its predecessors - a number one bestseller.
