Global Entrepreneurship Week at DACA

15/11/2010

Darwen Aldridge Community Academy staff and students are getting into the swing of Global Entrepreneurship Week, which kicked off today, running activities open to local community members of all ages.  GEW is an international initiative co-foundedb Enterprise UK.

Every day in assembly this week students are participating in DACA Family Fortunes. This entrepreneurship themed show is an opportunity to raise the profile of entrepreneurship within the Academy in a fun and engaging way. Student volunteers will form two teams and try to guess the top answers in our DACA survey, just like in the ITV show.  As well as the assemblies, during tutorial time students will have a series of challenges relating to the GEW theme of the day.

On Wednesday 17th November Darwen Creates and No Limits are holding a drop-in session with a business advisor.  It is an opportunity to discuss your business ideas and discover what working for yourself can mean for you.  It is free to attend and will take place at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy between 9am-12pm on Wednesday 17th November.  No need to book, just turn up!  (Darwen Aldridge Community Academy, Sudell Road, Darwen BB3 3HD)

That same evening will see the Pink Passion Party - an evening of fashion and fun.  The event aims to celebrate and promote female entrepreneurship to the women of Darwen. Guest speaker, Giorgia Smithies, Managing Director of JoJa Designs HQ will be sharing her experience of starting up her own business and working within the fashion industry, students are to model designer fashion labels in addition to showcasing their own fashion designs, business stalls ran by DACA students will add to the evening and encourage guests to purchase goods and raise money for charity.

On Friday 19th November Darwen Creates and No Limits are hosting a Home Enterprise Networking Breakfast. The event aims to shine the spotlight on people that have started a successful business from the comfort of their own homes, and will be an opportunity for home entrepreneurs from across Pennine Lancashire to share their experiences, listen to success stories and make important new contacts.  It’s also an opportunity to raise the profile of home-run businesses, offer confidence to those who are starting out, and provide inspiration to existing businesses looking to grow. A business adviser will be on hand to provide information and advice on a range of business topics and the Darwen Creates team will discuss opportunities available to small businesses in the local area.

The event is free to attend and will take place at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy from 7.30am-9.30am on Friday 19th November. Breakfast will be provided and parking is available via the Redearth Road entrance.  If you wish to attend please RSVP to Laura McNeil on 01254 819522 or email  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
