Portslade Aldridge Community Academy Head Girl Allyshia Vallier has been selected for a scholarship to travel to Rajasthan, India, this summer as part programme is sponsored by Virgin Atlantic in partnership with international charity and education partner Free The Children.
Free the Children is the world’s largest network of children helping children through education, with over a million young people involved in development programmes in 45 countries. Their India scholarship trip is for 30 people of secondary and sixth form age who are selected for their commitment to global issues or community volunteering. During the trip students get to experience the culture, history and way of life in their host nation, take part in workshops to explore global issues, and volunteer in a rural village by helping build a well or classrooms for the local school. Every summer Virgin send a group of young people aged 12-18 to one of their Adopt a Village communities.
The Academy’s Head of PHSE Dean Flynn said:‘ “Over the past 5 years at PACA Allyshia have worked with our Social Action Committee and has been an absolute credit to the Academy. It’s great to see that the charity and Virgin have recognised her hard work and she is being rewarded!”
