Portslade students choose Portslade Academy’s new logo

As the date for opening the new Portslade Aldridge Community Academy gets nearer, students have played a key role in choosing the Academy’s new logo.
Portslade graphic designer Gary Marsh presented a variety of ideas to students who debated the options before choosing their favourite one.
Lucy Slater, from Year Nine, said:
“It was really fun to be part of this process as we got to see the prototypes and to know what it is like to be part of change. It was good to have our views heard.” Johnie Davies, Assistant Principal, said: “We’re really pleased at the enthusiasm our students have displayed in helping choose our new logo. They have been able to take the ideas from drawings to reality. Our new logo demonstrates the changes coming to the school but also respects the good work started in the College, which we will be building on from September.”
The new logo consists of the Portslade Community College kite, turned to point upwards, in the colours of The Aldridge Foundation, which is the lead sponsor of the new Academy. The “Unlocking Potential” strapline is carried over from the existing College logo.
Chief Executive of The Aldridge Foundation, Honor Wilson Fletcher, added:
“Our students are our most creative resource, so it makes sense for them to play an active role in shaping the identity of their academy. A logo may seem like a small thing to anyone outside the academy, but for everyone at PACA it is really important. What is significant about this logo is that is a happy combination of the past and the future. Working together to produce this, making good decisions and thinking creatively, the students have done an excellent job of demonstrating exactly the kind of entrepreneurial attributes we want to encourage – and they came up with a great design as a result.”
