Topping Out ceremony for BACA’s new home
06/10/2010
The Brighton Aldridge Community Academy has marked its opening with the Student Founders Day, which included the formal topping out ceremony of the Academy’s new home. The day also saw the launch of the new Falmer Cricket Club, a partnership with Sussex County Cricket Club, which saw professional players Ollie Rainer and Lewis Hatchett take on a team of BACA students and Aldridge Foundation staff.
Rod Aldridge and Academy Principal Philomena Hogg had their first tour of the new building, seeing what will become the dance hall, the gym and science labs before making their way to the roof for the formal topping out ceremony.
A Topping Out ceremony marks the completion of the construction of building structure and traditionally wards off evil spirits.
The new building’s roof will include a garden, giving panoramic views across the rolling countryside.
